I’ll start off by saying that I have never been to a baby shower so I can’t be 100% sure what the standard etiquette is, but I am fairly sure that this isn’t on. There was an article posted the other day on Mommyish that was talking about a rather rude baby shower poem. Apparently someone was invited to go to a baby shower for someone they barely knew, so the person decided not to go (seems fair to me).
What unfolded next was a bit bizarre. The woman got a non attendance poem which said the following:
We’re sorry you missed the shower!
There was fun and games to be had
The food and drinks not too bad
The loot was a plenty
But we looked high and low and found none from you
Not even a shiny penny!
Babies need a lot
Of this fact we all know
So we’ve included some shops below!
If none are to your liking, and that we understand
Then grab a pen and get to writing
For checks are to our liking!
The *** Family is registered at these stores and checks can be mailed to this address.
HAHAHA – WHAT?!?! I’m pretty sure that just said – We still expect you to buy us something.
Even more impressive is that people who turned up and bought a gift were sent the following poem:
We loved seeing you at the shower
Remember how the gifts they did tower?
We sorted them for hours
Upon sifting and sorting we noticed something amiss
For your gift didn’t match the list
To fix your situation we listed our stores below
But a check could also help us flow!
WHOA! So you bought us a gift, but we didn’t like it. Go back and try again…
Seriously? I’m fairly conservative when it comes to money, but this is ridiculous. What kind of a rude individual thinks that this is even remotely acceptable? It’s highly likely that the person sending the notes is in need of some financial assistance, but this is the wrong way to go about it.
I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this are, as personally I’m flabbergasted.
