Hi everyone – today I am doing a book review for a book called The Lemonade Stand by Shannon at The Heavy Purse.

The first thing I want to say about this book is that I love the illustrations. It really helps a story to come alive when the pictures closely match what the content of the book is about and as this book is targeted at children, the pictures become all that much more important to help the child enjoy engage with the story.

The book itself is a very easy read and also won’t take up too much of your time. It’s the type of book I could see myself reading to my son before bed once or twice a week. I really like some of the core messages throughout the book and how the children are encouraged to work hard for their money and then to save it for things that they really want. It is the type of life lesson that I want my son to learn and I feel this book does it in a fun way that would keep him interested and wanting to read it again and again.

I also like how some simple mathematics calculations are added to the book as I feel that this not only helps to progress the story, but it teaches kids some basic math skills as well as the importance of dividing up shared money and repaying debts.

Most importantly – I like how the book remembers to show kids that money is not just about being earned or saved, but also to be spent on things that you might want to buy. After all, life is just one great big balancing act and there is no point saving forever if you don’t have some fun with your money.

Overall I think this is a great children’s book and it is certainly one that I will be reading to my son when he is a little bit older.

“Everyone handles money. Unfortunately, not everyone does it with confidence. Money has long been a taboo topic in many homes, which makes it even harder for parents to know where to start or what to teach. So I created a series of children books to help parents ease into these important conversations. Financial literacy is one of the most loving gifts you can give your children, and I encourage everyone to make money conversations a priority in your home.”
